Lucknow: With about 80,000 victims of novel coronavirus, our nation is jumping ahead to grasp the first position after the U.S. Since March, 2020, there has been a steep rise in the ratio of active cases to the number of tests done. But from the second week of October, the cases have declined from an average of daily 90,000 cases to 45,000. This has led to a thinking that the end of the pandemic is near, resulting in lowering of guard. People are taking this stage of pandemic for granted.

We should think positively but should never cut the roots of the trees that gave us the fruits. Precautions must be taken now with utmost seriousness and vigilance. We must remember that September was the month with most cases.

Based on a report by Christian Medical College, Vellore the reason behind the dip in the number of cases is social distancing, which has become more of a norm. People have started to think twice before interacting with anyone. People have become cautious even in interacting with those who are close to them.

The daily infections are decreasing but the herd immunity is still much far to achieve. The Indian Council of Medical Research has declared that the number of active cases have halved from September to October. Nevertheless, scientists also caution that India is yet to face the second wave. Through proper social distancing, masking and proper sanitization, the pandemic can be controlled by early next year.

Girdhar Babu, an epidemiologist of Public Health Foundation of India, has said that the virus may be contained if we apply all the precautions carefully. However, the spread in rural areas would continue at a lower rate for many months.

It is appreciable the way we are standing and fighting this battle together. There are many pull outs such as weak health infrastructure, improper medical facilities and poor administration. Nevertheless, we should stop blaming the weakness and start working on our responsibilities. It’s the power of the subconscious mind that may make any action powerful and meaningful.

When the virus was spreading in initial stages, we were scared and concerned but as the time passed and the number of cases increased, we came out from the houses and kept this virus alive and put our lives on stake.

Lockdown is just an external force used by the government to maintain the inertia of safeguarding the citizens. Observing the need of the situation rather than the demand we should take proper concern for our health and our family.

We should follow the guidelines, rules and regulations as prescribed by the medicinal authorities. This pandemic should be considered a chance to upgrade ourselves rather than making an unbeatable challenge.
