A Class 5th student dies of 'accidentally' consuming acid

New Delhi: A class 5th student of Deep Bharti Public school, Sanjana, died of accidentally consuming acid, in Delhi's GTB Hospital yesterday night.

The incident took place on Tuesday when a 4th grade student came in the victim’s class during lunch who had accidentally brought acid in place of water in a cold drink bottle. Sanjana, mistaking the acid to be water, drank it and within no time began vomiting. Shocked by this condition of Sanjana, her class mates and staff rushed her to the hospital but her condition deteriorated and she fell unconscious.

DCP Atul Kumar Thakur said a case of death by laxity under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Harsh Vihar police station against unknown persons.

“We are probing the case to fix the responsibility on the person whose negligence claimed the life of 11-year-old Sanjana (single name). The liquid that the girl consumed has been sent to the forensic laboratory along with the plastic bottle to ascertain the nature of acid,” Thakur said.

The family members of the deceased gathered outside the school on Wednesday demanding justice for their daughter and action against the class 4th child.
