Delhi Pollution: Delhi, the capital of India, has become the most polluted city in the world this year as well. Delhi has recorded an increase of 14.6 percent in PM2.5 concentration in 2021. In the year 2020 the concentration was 84 Ig/m3. Whereas now it has increased to 96.4 Ig / m3. Annual PM2.5 concentrations in 48 percent of India's cities average 50 Ig/m3 or more than 10 times the World Health Organization's (WHO) air quality guidelines.

Burning of crops is common in India. It is quite common to burn crops in rice fields near Delhi, especially in the winter months. Smoke is responsible for up to 45 percent of the pollution in the city, most of which is generated by the burning of these crops. These shocking facts have come to the fore in the World Air Quality Report 2021 on Tuesday. The report analyzed PM2.5 air pollution measurements from air monitoring stations located in 6475 cities in 117 countries.

Fine particulate pollution, known as PM2.5. It is generally regarded as the most harmful and most monitored air pollutant. PM2.5 can make asthma, stroke, heart and lung diseases more serious. Millions of people die every year due to PM2.5. The report also said that no country has been able to meet the air quality guidelines set by WHO for PM2.5 in 2021. Only the New Caledonia, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico regions met WHO PM2.5 air quality guidelines. Of the 6475 global cities included in the report, only 222 have met the WHO PM2.5 guidelines.

Annual PM2.5 concentrations in at least 93 cities in the report were more than 10 times the WHO PM2.5 guidelines. New Delhi, the capital of India, has been ranked the world's most polluted capital city for the second year in a row.
