New Delhi: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor gets a big relief in the case of death of wife Sunanda Pushkar. Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday acquitted former Union minister Shashi Tharoor from the charges leveled by the Delhi Police in the wife Sunanda Pushkar death case.

Shashi Tharoor clears of all charges:

During the crucial hearing on Wednesday, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court acquitted husband Shashi Tharoor of Sunanda Pushkar's murder charges. On the other hand, after getting relief, Shashi Tharoor has thanked the Delhi court. Along with this, Shashi Tharoor said that for 7.5 years he was going through this torture and pain. Now he is in big relief.

Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has been accused by the Delhi Police under sections 498A (torture by husband or his relative) and 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). If the charges are proved, the punishment in the case can be between 3 years and 10 years.

Sunanda Pushkar Death Controversy:

Significantly, Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in the suite of a luxury hotel in Delhi on the night of 17 January 2014. During the investigation, Delhi Police had registered a case against Shashi Tharoor for torturing wife Sunanda Pushkar for dowry and abetment to suicide.

It was told by the Delhi Police in the court that Sunanda Pushkar was mentally disturbed due to strained relationship with husband Shashi Tharoor. A few days before Sunanda Pushkar's death, she had a scuffle with her husband and its marks were present on the body. According to the allegations, Shashi Tharoor harassed Pushkar due to which she committed suicide.

A few days before her death, Sunanda Pushkar had alleged that her husband Shashi Tharoor had an affair with a Pakistani journalist.
