Coronavirus: First death due to Delta Plus variant in Mumbai

New Delhi: The first case of death due to Delta Plus variant has come to light in Mumbai. A 63-year-old woman died in Mumbai's Ghatkopar in July, the report of which has now surfaced. According to the report, the death of the woman was due to the Delta Plus variant.

Death due to Delta Plus variant:

Surprisingly, the woman was fully vaccinated, yet the woman died due to the delta plus variant. Let us tell you that so far two people died due to Delta Plus variants in Maharashtra. The first person died on June 13 in Ratnagiri. In fact, on August 11, it was confirmed that the woman died due to the Delta Plus variant.

'The 63-year-old patient passed away after being infected by the Delta Plus variant. We conducted contact tracing of her close contacts, six among whom tested positive for Covid-19. Their samples were sent for whole genome sequencing and two of the contacts were detected with the Delta Plus variant. The results of others are awaited,' said Executive Health Officer Dr Mangala Gomare.

Dr Mahendra Khandade, medical officer (Health) said, 'The deceased was first admitted to Godrej Memorial Hospital in Vikhroli. When her parameters started falling, her family members admitted her to Breach Candy hospital where she died.'

It is reported that Delta Plus variants detected in two other people who came in contact with the woman. Initially the woman was kept on oxygen support at home, later on 24 July she was admitted to the hospital, where she died after three days of treatment. Mumbai Health Department head Dr. Mangala Gomare said that the 63-year-old patient died due to delta plus variant. After this, 6 other people who came in contact with the woman were also examined.
