New Delhi: Bharat Biotech may soon start Vaccine Trial for the 2-18 age group. On Tuesday, the expert panel recommended Bharat Biotech's second / third phase clinical trial of Covaxin for this category of people.

The Subject Expert Committee of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) on Tuesday recommended clinical trials. Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech sought the permission of the trials to ascertain information on safety, effects and immunity among people aged 2 to 18 years. It is reported that this trial will be done on 525 subjects in many places including AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Patna.

Trials permission:

According to reports, sources said, 'After extensive deliberations, the committee has recommended to conduct Phase 2/3 trials for the age group of 2 to 18 years, before commencing the Phase 3 trial of the company study to CDSCO DSMB. Phase 2 will submit safety data for clinical trials along with recommendations. Earlier, at the SEC meeting held on February 24, the company was asked to submit revised clinical trial protocol.

Some time ago a tweet went viral, in which it was said that covaxin has been approved for people above the age of 12 years. Meanwhile, the government has denied such news.
