Dispur: A fatwa was issued by forty six clerics against Nahid Afrin, a sixteen year old singer from Assam for singing songs against terrorism.

The fatwa was distributed in Hojai and Nagaon districts of Assam and the 16-year-old singer has been asked to boycott her singing programmes and stop singing in public.

The fatwa reads, "If anti-Sharia acts like musical nights are held on grounds surrounded by masjids, idgahs, madrassas and graveyards, our future generations will attract the wrath of Allah."

It may be mentioned that Nahid is scheduled to perform 'against the Sharia' at Udali Sonai Bibi College in Lanka, Assam on March 25.

After learning about fatwa, Afrin said, "I am speechless. I think my music is God's gift to me. Many Muslim singers inspire me and I will never bow down to it (such warnings) and never leave singing."

The police said, “Nahid and her family will be provided full security and we are investigating the matter."

About Nahid Afrin:

  • Nahid hails from Biswanath Chariali in Assam.
  • She was a first runner-up in the 2015 season of indian idol.
  • Afrin made her Bollywood singing debut for Sonakshi Sinha in the 2016 movie Akira.
