The growing clan of cheetahs has indicated that in the coming times, leopards will be on a pleasant journey by expanding their lineage in Madhya Pradesh. The number of cheetahs in the state increased from 26 to 27. The ever-expanding clan made the proposed shifting to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary much easier.

According to experts, the experience so far on leopards in Kuno is paving the way for bringing more leopards from Africa. The shifting of cheetahs is to be done after the rains in Gandhi Sagar. Earlier, due to the death of some leopards, questions were being raised on the project, but as the leopards are liking the environment, their clan is increasing.

On 17 September 2022, 8 cheetahs brought from Namibia were released in the presence of PM Narendra Modi in Kuno. In the second phase on 18 February 2023 released 12 leopards brought from Africa. Of these, 13 exotic leopards are left. The number of surviving cubs in Kuno is 14. In this way the native leopards became more numerous.

There is no end to happiness:

There is no end to happiness. A week after news of Gamini giving birth to five cubs, it has now been confirmed that South African cheetah mother Gamini has given birth to six cubs, a record of sorts for a first-time cheetah mother.

Got solar electric fencing done:

For the protection of leopards in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, solar electric fencing is being done in about 64 square km. Apart from the main enclosure, separate quarantine enclosures are also being built.

Efforts to increase the number of deer:

Deer, the main prey of leopards in the sanctuary, is in low numbers, emphasis is being laid on increasing it. There is a plan to shift 1500 deer in the proposed project, out of which 300 deer have already been brought. The remaining leopards are being shifted.

The growing clan of Kuno...:

Fence prepared in 9 thousand hectares: Fence has been prepared in 9 thousand hectares area in the sanctuary. At some places, kutcha roads have been built, so that when the leopards are released, there will be facilities in monitoring them. Even the points of CCTV cameras have been fixed. An amount of more than Rs 17 crore has been spent on this.

Preparations complete:

Preparations have been completed for resettling the leopards in Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary but the entire process has to be decided by NTCA only. "The instructions we received to make preparations are being followed. The work of enclosure, quarantine, wire fencing and shifting of herbivorous wildlife has been completed up to 80 percent", said Aseem Srivastava, Forest Force Chief, Madhya Pradesh.

On March 10, in Kuno National Park, the female cheetah Gamini gave birth to not 5 but 6 cubs. This was confirmed on Monday morning, when after Gamini left, the monitoring team went near the cubs and took new photographs. This is the first time in Kuno that a female cheetah has given birth to six cubs simultaneously.
