At a time when the Northern Indian states reeled under severe cold wave conditions sending temperatures plummeting to 3-4 degrees, it has been raining heavily in the south. Rain has been continuing in Tamil Nadu for the last few days.

There is chaos in the state due to heavy rains on Sunday and night. Roads in many cities are submerged in water. It is still raining in many places.

Due to continuous rains in the state, many districts of Tamil Nadu have declared holiday in schools and colleges on Monday. Several parts of Tamil Nadu, mainly Chennai, received heavy rain on Sunday, causing commuters to face severe traffic jams.

The districts affected due to heavy rains include Nagapattinam, Kilvellur taluk, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Kallakurichi. The district collectors of these areas have taken this decision in view of the heavy rainfall and its impact on the area. The government has also appealed to the people to stay inside their homes.

According to the India Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in many districts of Tamil Nadu for the next one week. IMD has issued an alert of heavy rain at different places in about ten districts of the state. There will be rain in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts and Karaikal region for the coming 7 days.

IMD has issued orange alert for coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal as heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places on November 14. Even today there may be light rain with thunder and lightning.
