The Centre fully committed to progress of Tamil Nadu: PM Modi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stood in support of Jallikattu saying the government was making all efforts to fulfil the cultural aspirations of Tamil Nadu.
The PM also assured that the Centre was fully committed to the progress of the state.
PM Modi made the comments a day after the Centre approved a draft Ordinance by the Tamil Nadu government to introduce an exception for bulls in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
Citing the prevailing unrest in Tamil Nadu, the government urged the Supreme Court for delaying its judgement on the legality of Jallikattu.
In the government's appeal to the top court bench led by Justice Dipak Misra, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi stated that there were several problems in the state following the interim ban on Jallikattu and that keeping the circumstances in the view the judgement should be delayed at least by a week.
