Calcutta High Court orders CBI probe in Narada sting operation case

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)probe in Narada sting operation case.

The verdict was given by a division bench of acting Chief Justice Nishita Mhatre and Justice T Chakraborty on Friday. The HC has asked the investigative agency to complete its preliminary inquiry in 72 hours.

What was the sting about:

  • The sting operation had showed over a dozen of Trinamool leaders including Parliamentarians, state ministers and former ministers accepting bundles of cash in return for favours to a fictitious company.
  • Released barely weeks before the staggered 2016 Assembly polls began, it had set afire the already heated political atmosphere in the state.
  • All the politicians shown in the video footage have, however, denied any wrongdoing on their part.
