New Delhi: In Karnataka, 303 people have died due to Mucormycosis i.e. black fungus. Of this, 34 percent i.e. 104 people are from Bangalore. Explain that mucormycosis is a type of fungal infection that occurs in patients after recovering from corona.

During the infection of Corona, a large number of people across the country got infected with this fungus. In India it was declared an epidemic under the Epidemic Diseases Act.

Black Fungus Cases:

In Karnataka, by July 9, 3491 patients were diagnosed with mucormycosis, of which 8.6 per cent died. The maximum number of 1109 cases were found in the urban districts of Bangalore.

After this, 279 patients were found in Dhadwad, 208 in Vijayapura and 196 in Kalaburagi. After Bangalore, the highest number of deaths occurred in Kalaburagi, where a total of 23 people died.

Karnataka situation:

During the second wave of corona across the country, there were many complaints of black fungus among patients. At present, nothing can be said clearly about how this infection happened.

However, it is being said that those patients of Corona who had diabetes were the most victims of this fungus. Apart from this, patients also became victims of mucormycosis due to excessive use of steroids.

Shortage of medicine:

The report quoted sources as saying that the reason for the deaths between May and early June was a severe shortage of the anti-fungal drug, liposomal amphotericin B drug.

Due to extreme drug shortages, patients with mucormycosis were given a single dose of the drug once every 2-3 days, while 5-7 doses were required a day. Quoting a doctor, the newspaper told that, 'The medicine was not available. Believing that medicines are better available in government hospitals, many patients were shifted from private to government hospitals. The condition of medicine got better only in mid-June.
