New Delhi: The ruling NDA in Bihar has finalized the seat-sharing arrangement for the Lok Sabha elections, shifting attention to the Grand Alliance of opposition parties. Negotiations over seat-sharing among opposition parties have been ongoing for a long time, yet a final agreement has not been reached.

Former Deputy CM of Bihar and opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav, after a rally in Mumbai for the India Grand Alliance, claimed that resolving the seat-sharing issue in the state would be straightforward. Discussions among Grand Alliance leaders took place in Delhi on Monday, indicating that an announcement on seat-sharing by the alliance might be imminent.

Crucial Role of RJD:

During the previous Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, the party led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, the RJD, failed to secure any seats. However, RJD's role in seat distribution is considered pivotal. With its strengthened position after the last assembly elections, where it displayed significant political prowess, the Congress is inclined towards aligning with the RJD to maximize seat gains.

Although the Congress managed to secure victory on the Kishanganj seat in the last Lok Sabha elections, doubts persist regarding its stance on seat allocation.

Congress Demands 10 Seats:

The Congress, under the leadership of the RJD, has demanded 10 seats. Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee President Akhilesh Prasad Singh stated that the party contested on 10 seats in the last Lok Sabha elections, warranting a similar opportunity this time. However, the Congress has maintained a flexible stance.

To ensure the victory of the Grand Alliance, the Congress is willing to negotiate on seat allocation, even if it means sacrificing a few seats. Congress leaders emphasize the importance of keeping the alliance strong and reaching compromises on seat distribution among participating parties.

Left Parties' Demand Creates a Hitch:

The major obstacle for the opposition Grand Alliance lies with the left parties. Having failed to secure any seats in the Rajya Sabha elections, left parties are exerting pressure concerning the Lok Sabha elections. While the CPI(M) has hinted at contesting on eight seats, other left parties are demanding three seats each.

This situation presents a challenge for RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. The final decision on this matter rests with Lalu and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. It remains to be seen how they can satisfy the left parties.

Uncertainty Surrounding Pashupati Paras's Entry:

The allocation of seats has also led to a dilemma regarding Pashupati Kumar Paras. Paras did not receive any seats in the NDA's distribution. In response, he is eager to switch sides and join the opposition Grand Alliance to retaliate against the NDA. A decision was made during the meeting of Paras's faction on Monday in Delhi to ensure his political survival amidst the electoral battle.

There are speculations that Pashupati Paras's faction could join the opposition Grand Alliance. Opposition leaders are considering bringing Paras into the fold to weaken the political ground of the NDA. However, accommodating the Paras faction of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in the Grand Alliance might require allocating some seats to them. All eyes are now on the final decision of Lalu and Tejashwi Yadav.
