New Delhi: A major accident has happened in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. A military helicopter carrying CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and top military officers crashed. A total of 14 people were on board the plane. Among them were 6 top officials including CDS. So far four people are reported to have died. The helicopter took off from Sulur Air Force Station.

Army Helicopter Crash:

The Air Force tweeted, 'IAF's Mi-17V5 helicopter, in which CDS General Bipin Rawat was aboard, has an accident near Coonar, Tamil Nadu. Rescue work is going on with the help of local people. It has been learned that all the injured, including General Rawat, have been taken to the hospital.

Sources say that the bodies recovered from the spot have been taken to the Military Hospital. The Air Force has ordered an inquiry to know the cause of the accident.

The list of people aboard the helicopter has also surfaced. Apart from CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Lance Nayak Vivek Kumar, Lance Naik B Sai Teja and Havildar Satpal were on board.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will give a statement in Parliament on the CDS helicopter crash case. The army can also issue a statement soon. It is being told that Rajnath Singh will soon leave for Coimbatore.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has prayed for the well being of CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and others. Soon after the news of the accident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has also prayed for everyone's safety. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has also prayed for everyone's well being.
