Amit Shah admitted to AIIMS for ‘complete medical checkup’ ahead of Parliament session

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was admitted to Delhi AIIMS on Saturday for a “complete medical checkup” ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament from Monday. He will remain in hospital for 1-2 days, a statement issued by the medical institute said on Sunday.

This comes nearly two weeks after the 55-year-old BJP leader was discharged from the top medical institute for post-Covid care. This is his second visit to the hospital in over a month.

“As per advise given at discharge, he has now been admitted for a complete medical checkup before Parliament session for 1-2 days,” the statement by Dr Aarti Vij, chairperson, media & protocol division of AIIMS, read.

Earlier in the day, senior doctors said that Shah arrived for a check-up after he faced difficulty in breathing. A team led by the institute’s director, Dr Randeep Guleria, is closely monitoring his condition.

Last month, the minister was hospitalised due to “fatigue and body aches” after testing negative for coronavirus.

The BJP leader was infected on August 2 after which he was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for treatment.

On August 14, he had tweeted that he would be in home isolation for a few more days on the advice of his doctors.

Later on August 18, the institute, in a statement said: “He has been admitted to AIIMS for post-Covid care. He is comfortable and is continuing his work from hospital.”

He was subsequently discharged from the hospital after getting “fully recovered” on August 31.
