Amarnath Yatra resumes as weather improves in valley

Srinagar: After being suspended for a few hours due to bad weather, the annual Amarnath Yatra was resumed in the afternoon on Friday as the weather improved in the Valley.

Officials said yatris were allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine both from the north Kashmir Baltal and the south Kashmir Pahalgam routes on Friday afternoon.

"The yatra was suspended in the morning because of bad weather along the north and south Kashmir routes to the cave shrine," an official said.

"After the weather improved, yatris were allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine from both routes," the officials added.

The 40-day yatra started on Thursday and 6,000 pilgrims had 'darshan' inside the cave shrine on the first day.

Earlier in the day, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was blocked due to landslides and no 'yatri' was allowed to move towards the Kashmir Valley from here.

The landslides were triggered by incessant rains throughout the night.

The 40-day long Amarnath Yatra started on Thursday.
