Lucknow: The rising prices and additional cess has made a common man poorer but not the politicians. A look at the affidavits regarding assets submitted by Samajwadi Party nominees for the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday creates no other impression. The case of Amar Singh who was selected for the Rajya Sabha election despite opposition by some party leaders stands out. His assets , in money terms, increased by over 30 percent in comparison to 2014.

Singh had assets worth about Rs 98 crores in 1914 which increased to Rs 131 crores in 2016. He has bank deposits to the tune of Rs 10 crores. These figures do not include his wife’s bank balance and movable and immovable assets

And he is not the only “ crore-pati” in the party list.Vishambhar Nishad who is the “poorest” among the party nominees has assets worth Rs 3.2 crore.

The party has fielded seven candidates for the Rajya Sabha’s 11 Uttar Pradesh seats which will fall vacant in July.
