Ajmer Dargah chief urges Muslims to give up eating beef for Hindus

New Delhi: Coming in support of banning beef consumption, the spiritual chief of Ajmer Sharif dargah on Monday said he gave up eating beef and urged Muslims to do the same to honour the religious sentiments of Hindus.

He said the same on the 805th death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chisty.

"Khwaja Moinuddin, throughout his life, wanted peaceful living of Hindus and Muslims. In order to respect the feelings of our Hindu brothers and sisters, we should give up consumption of all bovine species," said Zainul Abedin Khan, the diwan of the shrine.

"By now, me and my family gave up eating beef for the rest of our lives," he added.

He said cow should be declared Indian national animal.

Syed Zainul also appealed Muslims to end the practice of Triple Talaq, calling it against Sharia.

He also supported Gujarat government's recent legislation of announcing life imprisonment for those involved in cow slaughter.

It may be mentioned here that Zainul Abedin Khan is the direct successor in the 22nd generation of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.
