AIADMK functionaries urge Jayalalithaa's aide Sasikala to lead the party

AIADMK organisational secretary C Ponnaiyan, on being asked about the state ministers' recent meetings with Sasikala, asked what was wrong in it if any party member met 1. He also asked if Sasikala wasn’t an important member of the party.

Talking to the reporters at the party headquarters, Ponnaiyan, AIADMK spokesperson, stressed that the party was steered by elected party bodies and Jayalalithaa's closest aide was an important member.

Questions raised over death of former Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa

"AIADMK is steered by party bodies, including general and executive committees and functionaries at multiple levels and Sasikala is a key member," he stated.

Dubbing the questions arising on Sasikala's elevation as unnecessary, he added that she lived with Puratchi Thalaivi Amma (revolutionary leader Jayalalithaa) till her last breath. So her appointment as the party chief was justified.

He also slammed the rumours doing rounds that Jayalalithaa's closest aide was the one who didn’t let anyone meet Jayalalithaa during her stay in the hospital, saying, "It is a planned rumour and spread wantonly. Blaming this or that person is a deliberate rumour."

On being asked about Sasikala's husband Natarajan and other family members' roles in the party, he said it was an unnecessary question as AIADMK was led and guarded by over 1.5 crore members.

Several reports of rift within the party over the decision of Amm's closest aide's elevation are coming. The party, however, has strongly turned down all such reports.
