Addressing Malnutrition: Karnataka Minister Urges Action Amid Concerns

Karnataka's Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, and Livelihood, Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, expressed deep concern over the escalating issue of malnutrition among pregnant women and children in the 'Kalyana Karnataka' region. Addressing the audience at a workshop on Food, Nutrition, Health-Hygiene & Wash organized by the National Livelihood Mission, he urged people to leverage central and state government schemes to combat this challenge.

Highlighting the pressing need to eradicate poverty and illiteracy to effectively tackle malnutrition, Dr. Patil emphasized the importance of collective efforts. The state government has initiated the 'Anaemia Mukta Poushtika Karnataka' scheme to address anaemia and malnutrition among different demographic groups, including newborns, children, teens, pregnant, and lactating mothers. The minister assured that these initiatives, including providing eggs or alternatives to schoolchildren, are crucial steps toward gradual improvement.

Acknowledging the vital role of women in the success of any scheme, Dr. Patil underscored the significance of women's self-help groups. He praised the impact of initiatives like the Sthri Shakthi groups, emphasizing their role in enhancing the rural economy. Dr. Patil encouraged the creation of similar organizations to empower women economically and contribute to society.

Karnataka's commitment to empowering women has gained recognition nationally and internationally, with government schemes applauded as a model. Dr. Patil concluded by stressing the need for continued efforts to combat malnutrition, making Karnataka a role model for the country.

In the ongoing battle against malnutrition, the minister's call for collaborative action and the implementation of government initiatives provides hope for a healthier future in Karnataka.
