Resident doctors of Maharashtra have announced to go on indefinite strike from 5 pm on Thursday. About 8000 resident doctors across the state will be on strike demanding better hostels, increase in stipend and payment of dues. Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors has announced a central strike.

MARD President Dr. Abhijit Helge said that Central MARD continued to have faith in the government's words despite the critical condition of the resident doctors. The resident doctors have written a letter to the state health minister on their demands. In the letter, he has written - "We represent Central MARD and resident doctors across the state. We are not able to fulfill the promises made to the resident doctors of the state. We are deeply disappointed by this."

In the letter sent to the Health Minister, it has been written that "despite our many pleas, it seems that the government has ignored our concerns. Hurt by the cruel behavior of the resident doctors towards their legitimate demands, we took this decision. There is no option left except going on indefinite strike in Maharashtra."

However, the association has clarified that emergency services will remain operational to ensure provision of necessary medical care to people during the strike.

In the letter, he has written, "Despite the assurance that our demands will be met within two days, it seems that even after two weeks, no progress has been made. We had expressed confidence in the government's words and had expressed our views several times earlier as well. The strike was called off. The benefit of doubt was always given to the authorities and we entrusted them with the responsibility to do the right thing in time to ensure the welfare of the resident doctors."
