In India, more than 31,000 cases of "black fungus" infections had been reported as of June. This was a 150 percent jump over the previous three weeks. Among COVID-19 survivors in the country, these diseases have been on the rise. A mysterious black fungus pandemic is sweeping India, with tens of thousands of COVID-19 survivors fighting the infection, which can cause blindness and death.

While the corona virus has been wreaking havoc on people all over the world for the past one and a half years and has affected millions of people, some people recovering from the disease are now facing various threats in India. With thousands of cases of black fungus reported across the country, cases of white fungus, yellow fungus and aspergillus fungus are also being reported among patients recovering from corona.

Although only a handful of cases of yellow and aspergillus fungus have been reported so far, the number of people infected with white fungus is steadily increasing. On May 29, 23 new fungus patients were identified at BRD medical college in Gorakhpur, out of which 17 were white fungus patients.

White fungus has now also led to a rare case of a female patient having holes in the small and large intestine. Though doctors at Gangaram Hospital in Delhi saved the 49-year-old woman's life by surgery, they say this is the first case in the world to attack white fungus in the intestine.

The woman had reached Gangaram Hospital with a complaint of severe abdominal pain and vomiting, had undergone breast cancer surgery some time ago and was given chemotherapy four weeks ago. A CT scan revealed air, liquids and a hole in the intestine, and a biopsy of pieces from the intestine showed that he had white fungus in his intestines, which had caused dangerous abscesses inside the intestines, causing holes in the small intestine and large intestine, from the food pipe.

The disease called white fungus is called 'aspergillosis', also known as candidiasis in medical terms, which can affect every part of the body through blood. It can infect the skin, stomach, kidney, brain, mouth, lungs, nails, genitals, etc. Some believe that white fungus is more dangerous than black fungus, but experts say it has no firm basis.

Most experts believe that 100 percent treatment is possible if white fungus is identified and treated at the right time. While black fungus mainly targets sinuses, eyes and lungs, white fungus may show symptoms such as headaches, facial pain, swelling, weakening of eye vision, blisters in the mouth. The biggest effect is seen inside the nose, lips and mouth. According to doctors, white fungus needs to be treated quickly, which can last for a month-and-a-half. However, white fungus infection can be cured with normal antifungal drugs and it usually does not require expensive injections like black fungus.

All the white fungus cases reported within the last few days have been infected after post covid and almost all are diabetic. These fungus cases are also being seen in patients with very weak immunity.

Doctors also recommend that patients do not take steroids without medical advice to avoid white fungus infections. In fact, white fungus preys on people who have a weak immune system and who are already suffering health problems like diabetes, cancer. It attacks corona infected patients taking steroids for long periods of time and especially diabetes patients easily.

In addition, severe covid-infected patients who are being given oxygen and have fungal equipment on their nose or mouth can also get infections, it can infect their lungs. Therefore, in case of low immunity, the patient needs excessive vigilance about any kind of fungal infection as its neglect can be fatal.

When white fungus infection spreads to the skin through the blood, small abscesses, which are often painless, are an early symptom of infection. If the infection affects the joints of the body, it causes joint pain, the ability to think when it reaches the brain, which can lead to vomiting with a sharp headache and also make the patient difficult to speak.

If the patient has complaints like rashes on his body, irritation in the eyes, abscesses in the tongue, sore throat, difficulty swallowing spit, these can be symptoms of white fungus, these symptoms can be overwhelming to ignore. White fungus attacks the patient's delicate organs such as the eye, throat, intestine, liver, tongue and rapidly destroys the organ's cells, thereby stopping the organ from functioning. Its attack is so severe that fungus can damage the major part of the body within a few days and in some such cases the patient may die if some important body parts fail.

White fungal infection attacks a person's lungs like a covid, which often shows symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, such as covid-19, so it is very important to be careful. Patients who are coughing continuously despite recovering from covid can get a sputum culture done with medical advice. When lung effects occur, corona-like symptoms sometimes cause people to treat themselves as corona infected without examination and take medicines at home without medical advice, which worsens the situation. Fungus infection can affect the main organs of the body, leading to organ failure that can kill the patient.
