32 killed, more than 100 injured as train derails in Andhra Pradesh

Bhubaneswar: At least 32 people have lost their lives and more than 100 feared injured after seven coaches and engine of Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express derailed in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh on late Saturday night.

The deadly accident took place at 11 pm when train was on its way to Bhubaneswar from Jagdalpur.

"Seven coaches and the engine of the 18448 Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express derailed near Kuneru station. Besides the engine, the luggage van, two general coaches, two sleeper coaches, one AC three tier coach and an AC two tier coach derailed," said Chief PRO of East Coast Railway J P Mishra.

The death toll may go up as several are trapped. Four medical vans have been rushed to the accident site. The reason behind the horrifying accident is yet to be known.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu is monitoring the case and senior officials are set to reach site. Prabhu has ensured proper rescue and relief operations.
