India-based story 'To Kill a Tiger' lost to Ukraine-based '20 Days in Mariupol' in the Documentary Feature Oscar category. Directed by Ukrainian film maker and war correspondent Mstislav Chernov, "20 Days in Mariupol" is the story of Ukrainian journalists trapped in Mariupol after the Russian invasion. The Best Documentary Feature category also included "Bobi Wine: The People's President", "The Eternal Memory" and "Four Daughters".

The Canadian production "To Kill a Tiger" was directed by Delhi-born Nisha Pahuja. She is an Emmy-nominated film maker in Toronto. It had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival where it won the Amplify Voice Award for Best Canadian Feature Film. The film is based on Ranjit's tough fight to get justice for his 13-year-old daughter who was kidnapped and later raped by three men.

"Ranjeet goes to the police and the people are arrested. But Ranjeet's relief is short-lived as the villagers and their leaders put pressure on the family to drop the charges. The film ends with a man trying to get justice for his daughter. Showing the story of Ranjit's hard fight for.

The film is a production of Notice Pictures Inc. in association with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). Apart from this, actor Dev Patel, Mindy Kaling, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Canadian poet Rupi Kaur and surgeon-bestselling author Atul Gawande are the executive producers of this film. It premiered on Netflix just hours before the Oscar ceremony.

Last year, India won the award at the Oscars with the foot-tapping number "Natu Natu" from the film "RRR". This song received an Oscar in the Best Original Song category and "The Elephant Whispers" won in the Short Documentary category. This was the first time that two films made in India won the biggest award in the cinema world.
