COPD, i.e. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a disease of the lungs due to which 32 lakh people died in 2019.

According to the World Health Organization, COPD is the third leading cause of premature death worldwide. This disease is also dangerous because it is a chronic condition, that is, once affected by it, it cannot be completely cured but it can be managed and stopped from spreading.

Therefore, it is very important to be alert as soon as possible in cases of COPD. Dr. Vivek Nangia, Head of Institute of Respiratory Critical Care, Max Hospital, Saket, said that it can be controlled with proper treatment on time.

Many heart and lung diseases caused by this can be avoided. But for this it is important to understand its signs at the right time and get tested.

What is COPD?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a lung disease in which the lungs become weak and there is difficulty in breathing. It is also sometimes called chronic bronchitis.

The lungs of people with COPD may become damaged or have phlegm accumulation due to smoke or pollution. Gradually the lung capacity decreases. Due to which there may be problem of breathlessness. The risk of infection may also increase in weak lungs. In serious cases, there is even a risk of death.

The best way to avoid this is to be alert in time and get it checked. The risk of these diseases increases due to not getting timely treatment-

Lung infections such as flu and pneumonia

lung cancer

heart problem

weak muscles and bones

Depression and anxiety
