At the meeting of the American Society of Hematology in California, researchers reported that T cells present in the body can be infected with the help of an injection. After this, it will target the cells responsible for cancer by changing the genes of the cells. With this, cancer cells can be eliminated in the body itself.

Director of the International Center for Infectious Disease Research, Else Verhoeven, says that the special thing is that during this time, there will be changes in the genes of cancer related cells. It will not affect other cells.

The virus used for gene therapy is being developed in Lyon, France. Researchers believe that if this research is successful, cancer patients will get great relief. Currently, for the treatment of cancer, T cells are taken out of the body and genes are changed. After this they are re-entered the body.

At the meeting, two companies presented the results of using the virus in the bodies of monkeys. It was reported that during cancer treatment, infected injections were given to 16 monkeys. In 15 of these monkeys, the count of B-cells responsible for cancer reduced by 75 percent. The companies plan to apply to the US Food and Drug Administration next year to begin testing the virus in people.
