Google, which manufactures pixel smartphones, has long been hinting at launching a foldable phone. The device was expected to be launched in 2021 but the company did not give any official information related to it. According to the new leaks, Google's first foldable phone may hit the market this year. Now the Geekbench listing shows a new Google device with the 'Pipit' codename.

New Google device showing on Geekbench

Speculations related to foldable phones are being speculated after a new report suggests that a Google device is listed on Geekbench. The device with pipit codename gets a geekbench score which means it will be launched soon. However, the listing does not say anywhere that it is a foldable device. MySmartPrice believes that the codename of the Google Pixel fold has been kept as pipit.

Google's new tensor chipset in the phone

The Geekbench 4 listing revealed that Google Pipit has an octa-core processor. The processor is recorded with a peak clock speed of 2.8GHz and a base clock speed of 1.8GHz. The processor features the Mali G78 GPU, indicating that google's new in-house tensor processor will be available to users on the device. You may know, the company has brought its new pixel series with an in-house processor tensor.

Android 12 operating system with 12GB RAM

The Geekbench listing mentions that the new Google device will have 12GB RAM. Also, this phone will come with an Android 12 operating system. However, Google last year introduced a special software version called Android 12L for large screen tablets and foldable phones, which can be made part of this phone. Relying on Leaks, Google's first foldable phone will hit the market with high-end specifications.

Why does Google cancel parts orders?

In November last year, there were indications that Google may completely cancel plans to bring its foldable phone. Reports quoted display supply chain consultants (DSCC) as saying that Google has canceled orders for foldable phone parts from suppliers. The company had not officially confirmed the matter even then and did not give a reason for doing so.

Wait for the official announcement

Prototypes associated with Google Pixel Fold were first revealed in 2019. The company had come up with native support for folding displays in Android 10 the same year, which benefited companies like Samsung. Last year, Leaks said that the company is going to use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) foldable OLED panels in pixel folds. The company has been working on foldable devices for more than two years but the launch date is yet to be confirmed.

California premium tech company Apple is also working on foldable iPhones. Apple is working on both clamshell and vertical designs for the first foldable iPhone, but only one version will be launched in the market.
