California tech giant Apple has surpassed all other companies in terms of 5G smartphone sales. According to Strategy Analytics, Apple has become the highest-selling company for 5G devices in the third quarter (Q3) of 2021. It has surpassed Xiaomi to the second position, with 5G shipments declining during this period. South Korean smartphone company Samsung has made it to the third position.

Data revealed in the Strategy Analytics report

A strategy analytics report said Apple sold the highest number of 5G devices and Chinese tech giant Xiaomi's global 5G smartphone shipment growth stalled in Q3 2021. Samsung, on the other hand, registered an increase at the same pace as before. Huawei's company Honor topped the order in terms of gains this quarter, followed by Motorola and Samsung.

Samsung's 5G smartphone growing

Wille Peteri-Ukonaho, Associate Director, Market strategy Analytics, said, "Samsung is far ahead of Oppo and Q3 has become the second-largest Android 5G smartphone vendor in 2021. "Following a drop in sales in recent months, Samsung is responding to the demand for its smartphones in various areas by introducing 5G phones in all price ranges. The company's portfolio ranges from premium foldable devices to affordable A-series.

Honor gains 5G smartphone market

"In Q3 2021, Honor was the fastest-growing 5G smartphone brand," said Yiven Wu, associate director at Strategy Analytics. "Honor's 5G smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, especially in China," he said. The honor was earlier the subbrand of Huawei, which has been made an independent company this year. The company's 50 5G, 50 SE 5G, and 50 Pro 5G models Q3 became the best-selling 5G Android phones in 2021. "

This quarter has not been good for Xiaomi

Ken Hires, director of data sharing firm Strategy Analytics, said, "Xiaomi's market Q3, which gained tremendously in 2021 Q2 the global 5G smartphone market, remained the same in 2021 and did not show an increase. He said Xiaomi saw a low demand for 5G smartphones in Q3 2021. Xiaomi's 5G smartphone market was influenced by Samsung outside China and Oppo in China.

5G smartphones already cheaper in India

Initially, 5G smartphones could be purchased only in the flagship range but their average selling price (ASP) has also come down in 2021. Brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Realme have launched 5G smartphones at a lower price in the last year. Realme says that all its new phones priced above Rs 15,000 will come with 5G connectivity. Apple may also bring the affordable iPhone model with 5G connectivity next year.

India may become a big 5G market

According to the Ericsson Mobility Report, 5G users will share about 39 percent of mobile subscriptions in India by the end of 2027. Companies may soon get a 5G spectrum and users will start getting 5G services by the end of 2022.
