Veteran Bhajan singer Narendra Chanchal passes away at 80

In an unfortunate incident, veteran devotional singer Narendra Chanchal passed away today after a prolonged illness. He was 80 years old and was hospitalised at Delhi’s Apollo hospital for the last two months. According to the media reports, singer’s concert organiser Sanjay Malik confirmed the same. Malik said that the Bhajan singer passed away at around 12 PM due to age-related issues. Chanchal was known for his religious songs and bhajans. His fans are very upset about his demise. He had even sung bhajans for Bollywood films.

Chanchal's popular Bollywood songs like “Chalo Bulava Aaya Hai” from the film Avtaar and “Beshak Mandir Masjid Todo” from Bobby garnered him immense popularity. He had even won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Singer for the film Bobby. Fans including celebrities have paid tribute to the veteran singer.

Singer Daler Mehndi tweeted, “Deeply saddened to learn that iconic and most loved #NarendraChanchal ji has left us for the heavenly abode. In prayers for his soul to rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family and legions of fans.”

Another singer Jaspreet ‘Jazim’ Sharma took to Instagram and wrote, “Rest in peace #narendrachanchal Sahab. You will be always alive for your contribution in Mŭsîc. May the departed soul rest in peace.”

Born on October 16, 1940, Narendra Chanchal had released an autobiography called ‘Midnight Singer’, which was about his struggles, hardships and achievements in life.
