Mumbai: Famous Gujarati writer and a playwright Taarak Mehta, on Wednesday, breathed his last. He was best known for his column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma.

The 87-year-old columnist, who was also known for his humour passed away after prolonged disease.

One of the popular shows of the television Taarak Mehta ka ooltah Chashmah which began in 2008 is based on the content from his column Duniya Ne Undha Chasma.

About Taarak mehta :

  • Mehta was awarded the fourth highest civilian award of India.
  • He also bagged Padma Shri in 2015.
  • Mehta gathered popularity in the Gujarati Theatre.
  • He also translated several comedies into Gujarati.

Mehta's death gave a huge shock to many of his fans. As soon as he news of his death broke out, his followers expressed deep sorrow and condoled his death.

The Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also took to twitter and expressed his sadness over his death.
