Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt on Thursday thanked Uttar Pradesh Police along with Maharashtra Police for nabbing the threat caller in th, frightening Bhatt family especially Alia Bhatt to death.

He had demanded extortion money of Rs 50 lakh to be deposited in a Lucknow based bank branch.

The caller had threatened Bhatt and his family, saying, if he did not fulfil his demand then filmaker's daughter Alia Bhatt and wife Razdan may face dire consequences.

Following the death threat, Mahesh Bhatt had filed a complaint in the Juhu Police station.

Bhatt had received the threat call on February 26. In order to ensure family's safety, filmmaker had filed the case under section 387 of IPC (causing a person to fear death or grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) on Wednesday.

Bhatt had also been on a receiving end earlier also. On November 13, group of 13 people were arrested who had conspired to kill Mahesh Bhatt.
