Pakistan revokes ban on release of Indian movies in theatres

Mumbai: Film Exhibitors Association in Pakistan has lifted the temporary ban imposed over the featuring of the Indian movies in the theatres. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the losses incurred by the single and multiplex owners across the country due to the self-imposed ban.

Zoraish Lashari, Chairman of the Film Exhibitors Association, said that the decision of screening the Indian films in theatres across Pakistan has been taken after thorough talks with the concern authorities.

Screening of Indian films would resume from December 19.

"The cinema owners and other stakeholders in the industry have been hit by the decision to impose a temporary suspension on the screening of Indian films. A lot of investment has been made in upgrading or building new cineplexes and multiplexes and the business at this time is dependent on screening of latest Indian films," he said.

Pakistani Cineplex and Multiplex owners had taken the decision of not showing Indian films citing the escalating tensions between both the nations following the URI terrorist attacks in India.
