Feminist short film ‘Kajal’ to have its worldwide premiere at NYIFF

Mumbai: Pakhi Tyrewala’s directorial debut short film ‘Kajal’ that features actress Salony Luthra's mind blowing performance will soon be premiered worldwide at the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) 2017. The movie has gained much attention for its strong & hard hitting subject on the issues faced by women increasingly in our society.

Being one of the most prestigious international film festivals, ‘Kajal’ was sent as an entry in the short film category to the NYIFF.

When talking about her role in the flick actor Salony Luthra said, “I believe I’m blessed and lucky to be a part of projects which are socially relevant & message oriented. The popularity of short films stems from the fact that a strong message can be conveyed in a shorter time. Short films today have a wider reach since the viewership among audiences involved is higher. Many directors in Bollywood & internationally too are venturing into the short film space. And by sending such films to be premiered at festivals, they get a recognition which would eventually help the film reach a wider set of audience worldwide.”

When asked about Salony’s noteworthy performance in the film, Pakhi Tyrewala said, "Her strong acting credentials and versatility find its roots from theatre & from the fact that she’s been devoted to her craft. She always believes in pushing herself with every character that she plays without looking at the end result of a film.”

About Salony Luthra:

• She has won best actress award for her outstanding performance in Tamil film ‘Sarabham’.
• She also worked in Tamil short film ‘Oliyum Oliyum’, had her portray the role of a visually handicapped person who turns her disability into an asset.
• Oliyum Oliyum was premiered and lauded at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.

‘Kajal’ will be premiered worldwide at the NYIFF 2017.
