Check out some Bollywood movies based on popular novels!

Lucknow: Novels had been great source for movie stories, be it Bollywood or Hollywood. Many directors hand-picked stories from great writers and moulded them into successful films. Here I present you with five such examples of movies from Hindi cinema, which are based on successful novels.

In slides ahead: Check out some of the pictures...

1) Noor adapted from Karachi You Are Killing Me!

Recent release ‘Noor’ is based on a book by Pakistani journalist-writer, Saba Imtiaz, who wrote about the ruthlessness of the city, Karachi. The flick replaced ‘Karachi’ by ‘Mumbai’ and actress Sonakshi Sinha portrayed role of a journalist, whose story this novel dispels. The flick received mixed reviews but the novel was a great success!

2) Fitoor adapted from Great Expectations!

Director Abhishek Kapoor personified Kashmir’s beauty as Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif through this movie. The crux of the flick was actress Tabu who played the character of Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens’ novel ‘Great Expectations’. Her eyes expressed the exact emotions of a spinster, on which her character was based and the movie-maker did complete justice to the novel by choosing the cast that made the characters come alive.

3) Two States adapted from Two States!

Cultural differences have been a great subject for Indian movies. Taking this as a root, a movie was made by the same name written by author Chetan Bhagat. The protagonists, Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor, played their characters with finesse. The typical ‘Punjabi’ mom, played by Amrita Singh, was one of the best stuffs to be admired in the movie.

4) Aisha From Emma!

This flick was fantastic mixture of high fashion, style and emotions. Based on novel ‘Emma’, penned by author Jane Austen, the story revolved around misconstrued romance, perils of youthfulness and entangled love-stories, peppered by humour. Director Rajshree Ojha made Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol (leads of the film) blend their chemistry with the screen presence that is still remaining fresh inside viewers’ hearts!

5) Omkara from Othello!

This film was a great rage at the time it was released (2008). The flick braught best actors and their acting chops to the table. Director Vishal Bhardwaj laid great emphasis on his casts and their characters, particularly ‘langda’ portrayed by Saif Ali Khan. The flick was so good that it was later labelled as Indian version of Shakesphere’s play ‘Othello’, on which the film was based!
