Amrish Puri death anniversary: Reminiscing Bollywood's 'Mogambo'

Mumbai: The most hated villain of Bollywood, Amrishlal Puri, a.k.a Amrish Puri was born in the year 1932. He was the most prominent personality of Indian cinema.

He has earned accolades for his iconic portrayals as an anti hero. The actor started his acting career as a theater artist at Prithvi Studio.

After struggling much in the Bollywood Industry, Amrish got his first break at the age of 40 in films where he played small roles as an aide to the villain. It was in the late 80's that he got recognition and was casted as the main villain in Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Hum Panch'. From here, his acting career propelled and he started getting the roles of the main villain.

Amrish has played some historic roles that have been inked on the minds of the audience. The actor is best known for his vicious roles. The most prominent being 'Mogambo' in 'Mr. India' and 'Chadda' in Damini where his magisterial voice did justice to his wicked characters.

Chadda- The hair twitching Chadda in Damini raised the eyebrows of the audience with his sly and derogatory remarks for the main lead Damini played by Meenakshi Sheshadri. The audience hated his vicious and mean character.

Raja Saheb - Raja Saheb of 'Koyla' was a wicked capitalist who marries a young girl with a fake identity . The role was played with such conviction that it made the audience hate him.

Ashraf Ali - The Pakistani father who turns a religious bigot and stands in the way of the love of her daughter in 'Gadar' would not have been possible without Amrish who looked so real in the character that people started loathing him while he tries to assail the lovers.

No matter what the character was, Amrish Puri always breathed life into them with his convincing acting and sheer talent. The actor still remains the most memorable villain of silver screen whose presence overpowered the protagonists.
