Performance of districts in School Education dipped during Covid

Performance of the districts in school education witnessed a significant dip during the Covid 19 induced pandemic in the country.

According to a report on the Performance Grading Index for the district (PGI-D), none of the districts figured in the top two categories in the Index.

Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts of Kerala were the highest-performing districts in school education during 2020-21. Kannur and Thrissur districts, also in Kerala, were the second-best performers.

The third best category of PGI-D was ‘Ati-Uttam’.

The highest number of districts which were among the best performers are from Rajasthan, where 26 districts found mention in the report. Gujarat with 22 and Punjab with 19 were the next two best performers. Delhi’s all nine districts were categorised as ‘Ati-Uttam’.

The PGD-I report makes an assessment of the performance of the school education system at the district level by creating an index for comprehensive analysis. There are ten grades and the highest achievable grade is ‘Daksh’.
