Ragging has become a menace in the institutions of higher education in the country and in every academic session one comes across incidents of ragging at many institutions.

In an apparent bid to prevent ragging and create awareness among the students about it, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed the colleges and universities across the country to launch an ‘’anti-ragging campaign’’ between August 12 and 18.

According to the sources, a host of competitive events, including poster presentation, logo, slogan writing, essay writing, video and short films, would be held at the campuses to create awareness among the students about the consequences of ragging.

The best works would also be rewarded, sources added.

The UGC has however made it clear that this campaign should not be confined to one week but it should continue the year long.

The colleges and universities will have to organise seminars and events to create awareness about ragging and also inform the UGC about the same.
