Judges should hear criminal cases against MPs and MLAs on priority: Delhi High Court

Delhi High Court asked its judges to hear on priority basis all criminal cases/appeals/revisions related to MPs and MLAs. With this, decisions can be taken in cases quickly and effectively. In view of this, the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan Singh and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora also asked for re-allocation/re-distribution of pending cases from its registry so that the cases can be heard and decided expeditiously.

The court said in its decision that the registry has informed us that at present 34 cases, appeals, amendments related to MPs and MLAs are pending before the single bench of this court. In this, orders to stay the case have been passed and a period of more than six months has passed for this. In such a situation, the Registry is directed to re-allocate/re-distribute these cases to such courts, benches, as considered appropriate and effective for expeditious disposal of such cases. With this, adjournment applications in subject matters can be disposed of quickly. Also, the hearing of such cases will end before the designated special courts.
