Bad condition in Delhi-NCR due to severe cold, low visibility due to fog; flights also late

There is a cold wave situation these days in entire North India including Delhi-NCR. Along with winter, a melting like situation has arisen due to cold winds.
To get relief from the cold, people at many places have to resort to bonfires. The cold is wreaking so much havoc that people can be seen warming themselves by fire at many places on the footpath.
Along with cold, dense fog and mist were also seen on the roads of Delhi-NCR early today, due to which visibility remained very low. Drivers are facing a lot of difficulties during this period.
Flights are also getting delayed due to dense fog in Delhi-NCR. Passengers have to wait a long time at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Along with the severe winter, the level of pollution is also continuously increasing in Delhi-NCR. The air quality index in Delhi has crossed 400 points, in view of which the government has imposed strict restrictions.
On Wednesday, Delhi-NCR definitely got some relief from the harsh cold. The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.3 degrees Celsius, which is one degree more than the average temperature of this season, the weather office said.
According to IMD data, Delhi has experienced five cold days and five cold wave days so far in January, which is the highest in the last 13 years.
On Wednesday, visibility of 600 meters was recorded at Delhi's IGI airport from 5.30 am. According to Indian Railways, due to fog in some parts of North India, 24 trains coming to Delhi were delayed by one to six hours.
The air quality index in Delhi remains in the "very poor" category. AQI 392 was recorded at 9 am in the national capital.
