Under construction building collapses in Kolkata, relief work underway, Many feared trapped

After this, a search and rescue operation was conducted in view of the possibility of people being buried under the debris. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the incident site and took stock of the rescue operation.
A police officer said, “Late on Sunday night, an under-construction building collapsed in Garden Reach area. We have pulled out some people from the debris. The rescue operation is still going on."
Ambulances have been deployed at the spot. According to local people, pieces of concrete had fallen before the building collapsed. He told that when the building collapsed, there was a loud noise and a cloud of dust spread over the entire area. In this densely populated area, building debris also fell on the nearby slums.
Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Subhendu Adhikari, said in a post on Am. “I have been receiving distressing calls about possible casualties,” he said. Please send any team that can help rescue the victims, be it fire brigade, police or any other team.'' The officer also shared pictures of the incident site.
