Twelve killed, 23 injured in road accident in Sambhaji Nagar in Maharashtra

A police officer said that there were 35 passengers in the tempo traveller. He said that the accident took place around midnight in the Vaijapur area of the expressway in the district, located about 350 km from Mumbai.

At least 12 people were killed and 23 others injured, some seriously, in a collision between a tempo traveller and truck in Sambhaji Nagar district in Maharashtra.

According to the police sources, the accident happened on Samriddhi Expressway around 1 o'clock in the night.

The sources said that the accident was so horrific that the tempo traveler was almost completely damaged in the same. The tempo rolled several times following the impact of the collision. It was a horrific accident, the eye witnesses said.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra was earlier known as Aurangabad.

A police officer said that there were 35 passengers in the tempo traveller. He said that the accident took place around midnight in the Vaijapur area of the expressway in the district, located about 350 km from Mumbai.

According to the information, 12 people died while 23 people were injured in this road accident. The dead include five men, six women and a minor girl. All the injured people have been admitted to Valley Hospital in Sambhaji Nagar.

Police said that the tempo traveler lost control. As a result of which he collided with the truck from behind.

It was not immediately clear how the tempo traveler driver lost control over the vehicle. ‘’We are investigating the reasons that may have led to the mishap,’’ a senior police official said in Sambhaji Nagar.

The injured were admitted to the district and nearby hospitals. The condition of some of the injured was stated to be critical.

The Maharashtra government has directed the officials to ensure that the injured were properly treated at the hospitals. Political leaders also visited the injured in the hospitals.
