Three jawans of the special task force were martyred and 14 others injured in an encounter between security personnel and Naxalites on the Bijapur-Sukma border in Chhattisgarh.

According to the police, a security camp was set up today in Tekalgudem village of Sukma to provide basic facilities to the people and keep an eye on Naxalite activities. After setting up the camp, the District Reserve Guard, Cobra Battalion and Special Task Force personnel went out on patrol in the area towards Jonaguda-Aliguda near the camp. At the same time the Naxalites started firing on them.

According to the police, the security forces gave a befitting reply to the Naxal firing, after which the Naxals escaped taking cover in the forest. However, during the encounter, three soldiers were martyred and 14 were injured. After first aid, the injured soldiers were sent to Raipur by helicopter for better treatment at Silger Camp.

It is noteworthy that in the year 2021, 23 soldiers were martyred in a police-Naxalite encounter in Tekalgudem forest.

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sunderraj P. said that Bastar Police and the deployed security forces are determined to free the people of the area from the Naxal problem. He said that despite the huge loss caused in the Tekalgudem encounter in the year 2021, in the public interest, we will again establish a camp in Tekalgudem village and work dedicatedly for the peace, security and development of the area.

In April 2021, around 2,000 security personnel were searching for a Naxalite leader in Bijapur district when some of them were attacked. Officials had said that about 400 to 750 trained Naxalites surrounded the soldiers from three sides and opened fire and fired machine guns on them for several hours. They also looted weapons, ammunition, uniforms and shoes of the security personnel who lost their lives. According to CRPF, about 28-30 Naxalites were also killed in the encounter.
