Pilibhit: A police sub-inspector (SI) Subhash Chandra Yadav was shot dead on Wednesday night in the district.

The accused is a mentally retarded person and he started pelting stone on the police jeep while the police was on patrolling at around 0300 hours.

  • Accused snatched Yadav’s revolver and sprayed bullets on him.
  • Happened at around 0300 hours.
  • Two others were injured in the firing.

Nothing new in attacks on Police:

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday told Vidhan Sabha that as many as 1,044 times policemen were attacked during 4-year-rule of Samajwadi Party (SP) government.

The report was presented by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Azam Khan in response to the question asked by BJP member Dr. Radha Mohan Agarwal.

Figures of attacks made on police in SP’s rule:

Police were attacked 75 times in 2007-08

  • This figure was increased to 101 in 2008-09
  • 103 times in 2009-10
  • 124 times in 2010-11
  • 144 times in 2011-12

Figures of attacks made during BSP rule:

  • Police were attacked 202 times in 2012-13
  • 264 times in 2013-14
  • 300 times in 2014-15
  • 278 times in 2015-2016
