NHAI Officers Among Six Arrested in Rs 20-Lakh Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made significant strides in exposing corruption within the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) with the arrest of six individuals, including two NHAI officers, in a high-profile bribery case. The alleged scandal involves a sum of Rs 20 lakh and has sent shockwaves through the corridors of one of India's key infrastructure organizations.

The arrested individuals are identified as Arvind Kale, General Manager and Project Director of NHAI Project Implementation Units in Nagpur; Brijesh Kumar Sahu, Deputy General Manager and Project Director of NHAI in Harda, Madhya Pradesh; Anil Bansal and Kunal Bansal, both Directors of M/s Bansal Construction Works Pvt. Ltd; C Krishna, who allegedly gave the bribe; and Chhater Singh Lodhi, an employee of M/s Bansal Construction Works Pvt. Ltd.

The CBI's investigation, triggered by allegations of corruption, has uncovered a complex web of deceit involving public servants and private entities. The accused directors of a Bhopal-based private company are suspected of "delivering bribes" to various NHAI officials. The investigative agency has taken swift action, registering a case against four public servants of NHAI, the directors of the private company, and other individuals involved.

During a series of raids at five locations in Bhopal and Nagpur, including residential and official premises, the CBI seized a substantial amount of cash totaling Rs 1.1 crore. Among this amount was the alleged bribe of Rs 20 lakh. The operation aimed to expose the depth of corruption within the NHAI, bringing to light the illicit practices carried out by those entrusted with public service responsibilities.

The CBI spokesperson provided insights into the modus operandi of the bribery case. A trap was set, leading to the apprehension of Arvind Kale after the delivery of the Rs 20-lakh bribe by an employee of the private company. The ongoing searches extend to different offices and residences of the accused individuals in Nagpur, Bhopal, and Harda.

This recent development underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat corruption at all levels. The arrests send a strong message that individuals engaged in corrupt practices within government institutions will face legal consequences. As the investigation unfolds, the spotlight remains on ensuring accountability and transparency within public service entities in India.
