The Siddaramaiah government of the state is under question for not taking timely action against JDS MP HLA Revanna and JDS MP Prajwal Revanna, embroiled in Karnataka's famous sex scandal. It is believed that the state government was waiting for the first phase of general election voting so that the resentment of the Vokkaliga community does not affect the voting.

Prajwal fled abroad soon after the first phase of voting on 26 April. After that the Chief Minister directed to get the matter investigated by SIT. Now the political squabble between Congress and BJP regarding this has intensified. Deve Gowda's family is considered to be the first family of the Vokkaliga community. The Deve Gowda family has great prestige in this community. CM Siddaramaiah comes from the Kuruba Gowda community. Congress feared that if action was taken against Prajwal, the resentment between Vokkaligas and Kurubas might increase. That is why the first phase of voting was awaited. Prajwal is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an NDA candidate from Haasan seat. His father HD Revanna is currently an MLA.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to ask the Ministry of External Affairs and Home Ministry to cancel Prajwal's diplomatic passport and ensure his return. He has also accused former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda of helping his grandson and Prajwal Revanna escape abroad.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Karnataka government deliberately delayed Prajwal's arrest and waited for elections to be held on Vokkaliga-dominant seats. He said that the Congress government played politics and gave Prajwal a chance to escape.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that as always, Narendra Modi has maintained shameful silence on the gruesome crimes committed against women in Karnataka. After all, how did such a big criminal escape from the country? Rahul said that Modi becoming a 'political family' has become a guarantee of survival of criminals.
