A case of alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl has come to light in the online metaverse. British police are investigating the first case of alleged rape in a virtual reality game. The girl was left traumatized after her avatar (her digital character) was gang-raped by strangers online, reports The New Yorker.

This is not the first case of rape in the virtual world of Metaverse. Even before this, some similar cases have come to light. Let us know what is metaverse gangrape and what are the provisions to stop it.

The teen was wearing a virtual reality headset in an immersive game when she was allegedly raped by a group of men, reports said. The case is believed to be the first virtual sex crime investigated by police.

Although she suffered no physical injuries, investigating officers said she suffered emotional and psychological trauma similar to that of a real-world rape victim.

A senior official associated with the case said the girl experienced psychological trauma similar to that of someone who was allegedly physically raped. The emotional and psychological effects will last longer on the victim than any physical injury. The officer said this case poses many challenges for law enforcement as there is no provision for it in the existing law.

Metaverse, by the way, is a completely virtual world. Everything that happens in our real world is happening in it. Whenever someone signs in to the Metaverse, he or she goes into an online world. There, users' virtual characters (avatars) meet and interact with each other. Safety feature tool in Metaverse that is turned on by default. If it is not activated then unwanted people or people outside the friend list come closer.
