A 43-year-old woman jumped from the newly constructed Atal Bridge on the sea to connect South Mumbai with Navi Mumbai. Police gave this information on Wednesday. An official said that the police have not yet been able to locate his body. But an alleged suicide note has been found from the victim's residence in Mumbai. Police said that Kinjal Kantilal Shah, a doctor by profession, was depressed and was undergoing treatment. She lived with her father in Naveen Asha building located on Dadasaheb Phalke Road in Parel area of Mumbai.

Police said that on Monday afternoon, Kinjal took a taxi from near her house and asked the driver to take her to Atal Setu. Rajendra Kote, senior police inspector of Nhava Sheva police station, said, "After walking a short distance on the bridge, the woman asked the driver to stop the taxi. The driver did not want to stop the vehicle but when she insisted, the driver stopped the vehicle. She came out and jumped off the bridge."

The taxi driver immediately informed Navi Mumbai Police after which the coastal police launched a search operation with the help of local villagers and rescue teams. According to the police officer, the woman had called her father on Monday and told him that she was going out for some work. When her father returned home, he saw her 'suicide note', in which she had written that she was going to Atal Setu to end her life.

He told that the woman's father lodged a complaint about the matter at Bhoiwada police station in Mumbai. The officer said that after receiving the complaint, the police started searching for her and examined the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area which revealed that she boarded a taxi around 1.30 pm on Monday and attempted suicide on the bridge.

Police said that in the suicide note, he had stated that the reason behind his decision to commit suicide by jumping from Atal Setu was the severe depression that had been going on for eight years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Trans Harbor Link, the country's longest sea bridge, in January. The official name of this bridge built on the sea is Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu which connects South Mumbai to Navi Mumbai.
