Betting ruined another house. Darshan Babu is an engineer who is fond of betting on cricket matches and has been betting on Indian Premier League (IPL) games since 2021. He would often borrow money after losing in betting. In doing so, he became a debtor of more than Rs 1 crore. If he did not return the borrowed money on time, the borrowers started harassing his family. Ultimately, his 23-year-old wife Ranjita, fed up with the constant harassment from creditors, committed suicide.

Ranjitha was found hanging from a fan in her house in Chitradurga, Karnataka on March 18. According to the family, Darshan had a debt of more than Rs 1 crore. He worked as an assistant engineer in the minor irrigation department in Hosadurga and was trapped in IPL betting from 2021 to 2023. In such a situation, the financial situation of the couple got disturbed.

It is being told that Darshan got so trapped in the web of betting that he could not get out and became a debtor of more than Rs 1 crore. Darshan had borrowed more than Rs 1.5 crore to bet on matches and lost all the money. To repay this loan, Darshan withdrew all his savings and returned approximately one crore rupees. However, police say that Darshan still has an outstanding loan of around Rs 84 lakh.

Ranjita married Darshan in 2020. His father Venkatesh claims that Ranjitha came to know about Darshan's betting in 2021. In his complaint, Venkatesh said that his daughter was extremely troubled by the constant harassment by moneylenders and due to this she committed suicide. Rangita's father has also revealed the names of 13 people who had allegedly lent money to Darshan.
