A 24-year-old Indian student was attacked with a knife in the American state of Indiana. At present his condition is said to be serious.

According to the media reports, the student, identified as Varun only, was attacked by one Jordan Andrade with a knife on his temple in a public gym in Valparaiso city of Indiana.

The authorities said that they were still investigating. Following the incident, the attacker was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

The reports said, "Varun was attacked with a knife by the attacker. Varun was taken to Fort Wayne Hospital. Where Varun's condition is said to be critical."

"Andrade then described (the man) as a threat to him, so he attacked with the knife," police said. The increasing cases of hate crimes in America have become a cause of trouble. Even before this, there have been many reports of attacks on Indians in America. A few days ago, an elderly Sikh of Indian origin was beaten to death in New York City, America. The elderly man was badly beaten after the car accident.

On October 15, a 19-year-old Sikh youth was attacked in New York while he was going to a Gurudwara in Richmond Hill by bus.

Christopher Filippo, 26, punched the man in the back of the head, tried to take off his turban and told him, "We don't wear that (turban) in this country."

Days later, 66-year-old Jasmer Singh was arrested. But he was attacked when his car collided with another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle, 30-year-old Gilbert Augustin, attacked the elderly Sikh, after which he died during treatment.
