10 year old girl dies after eating cake ordered online on her birthday

A 10-year-old girl died after eating cake on her birthday last week in Patiala, Punjab. There is suspicion that the cake was poisonous. The deceased girl's grandfather said that the entire family, including the girl's younger sister, fell ill after eating the cake. He told that the cake was ordered online from a bakery in Patiala.

The deceased girl Maanvi was seen cutting a cake and celebrating with her family in a video widely shared on social media, hours before her death.

The girl's grandfather Harban Lal said that she had cut the cake on March 24 around 7 pm. By 10 pm the same day the entire family fell ill. Immediately after this both the sisters started vomiting. He told that Manvi complained of extreme thirst and dry mouth and asked for water. After this she went to sleep.

When his health deteriorated the next morning, his family took him to the hospital. Harban Lal said, he was given oxygen and electrocardiogram (ECG) recording was done, but they could not save him. He was declared dead soon after, he said.

The family alleges that the chocolate cake was ordered from 'Cake Kanha' and had some poisonous substance in it.

An FIR has been registered against the bakery owner. Police said, "The post-mortem of the body has been done. A sample of the cake has also been sent for testing. We are waiting for the report."
